WRITING AND LIBRARY RESEARCH PEER TUTORS

Tutor Bios

Kimberly Balazs

As a Senior in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and an editor for the UCI Undergraduate Research Journal, I have gained much experience in scientific writing. This has served me well in my work as a student researcher in the Social Ecology department. In addition to laboratory research, I have also conducted library research for many courses, including the Writing 39 series. Through Writing 39, I developed the skills to become a confident and versatile writer. This is fortunate because I now do a significant amount of writing as a Philosophy minor. As you can tell from my story, writing, in its many different forms, will be very much a part of your experience here. I encourage you to come see me and the other tutors early and often.

Christina Kapucija

Hi, my name is Christina Kapucija, and I'm a third year English Major. I have experience tutoring at a local high school through the H.O.T. program. I was recently admitted into the Humanities Honors Program and I am looking forward to enriching my studies through the proseminar. I am also pursuing the creative writing emphasis in poetry. I love to write, and as a tutor I hope to make the writing process more rewarding and enjoyable for my fellow students.

Tiffany Smart

Hello, my name is Tiffany and I'm a fourth year Studio Art Major, Digital Arts Minor here at UCI. I have a wide variety of interests in nearly every subject, but writing has always been one of my most favorite. I believe that good writing comes from a relaxed and positive attitude that allows you to fully articulate your thoughts and feelings. I love meeting new people, so stop by and see me if you need any help or just want to chat!

Patrick Sung

Hi folks!   My name is Patrick Sung and I'm an English major in my third year here at UCI.   I'm new to the tutoring staff, but I'm hoping to make up for my inexperience with hot-blooded spirit.   I see myself as an author or publishing house editor in future years, so exploring all kinds of written work is a wonderful passion.   I'm looking forward to seeing many different styles of writing from other students, and helping them achieve sublime heights of expression.   Or you could just drop by and we'll see what we can do about those essays.

Xenia Tashlitsky

My cookbook is called "Behind Every Great Chef, There's A Mom!" I think that behind every great writer, there is a good peer reader! I applied to become a writing tutor because I like it when I change a word, shuffle a sentence, or connect a concept and suddenly, the writing just "clicks." (I also like reading Sailor Moon fanfiction on the Internet.) One of my Humanities peer editing partners even laughed that the professor wrote "listen to your peer editor" on his rough draft.   As a political science major, I learned to navigate both printed and electronic resources, so if you need any help editing that essay or writing that research paper, please stop by!

Thanks!
Xenia

Brian Thompson

I'm Brian, a 3rd year English major here at UCI and an Orange County native. After finishing my degree, I plan on teaching English as a Second Language overseas (likely in China or Japan). To expedite my experience in this field, I began tutoring English and ESL at a local community college in early 2006, where I soon discovered that being a tutor is something I thoroughly enjoy. I understand that writing can be a real pain for many (believe me, as an English major I have had my fair share of frustration in this area), and that an extra pair of eyes or a bit of friendly advice on a paper can sometimes make a huge difference. As a writing tutor here at UCI, I hope to be able to share my writing and mentoring experience with fellow Anteaters and perhaps make their academic career go a little smoother.

Dani Young

Hey there!   I'm Dani, a fourth-year English major and classics minor.   I know that writing and researching papers can be an extremely daunting and frustrating task, but that's what I'm here for.   I'd love to help you find the references you need, shape your arguments to make a cohesive whole, or even just brainstorm.   So, come visit me and bring in anything written that's giving you trouble.

Jack Zerrudo

Salutations, dear reader.   My name is Jack Zerrudo.   I'm a fifth-year political science major and management minor.   As a Regents Scholar and member of UCI's Campuswide Honors Program, I have tested my writing abilities in rigorous courses and under hazardous conditions, so you can place full confidence in my advice.   And as an undergrad stubbornly pursuing Departmental and Latin Honors, I share the very same goal of researching and writing effectively.   You can rest fully assured that my motivation and dedication to help others will never waver.   To me, writing is a fascinating craft in which every unique style reveals plenty about a person; thus, it is both a special responsibility and certain privilege to help people refine their scribing skills.   Doing so will not just provide a skill for life but also create a source of pride.   I welcome such a challenge and look forward to serving as a tutor.
