The WRITE Start: Preparing to Teach a W Course

Sponsored by the Office of the Campus Writing Coordinator, this workshop is ideal for those PREPARING to teach an upper-division writing course, for those THINKING about teaching an upper-division writing course, and for those considering PROPOSING an upper-division writing course.

Keeping The Momentum Going:
Best Practices in Upper-Division Writing
Thursday, November 19, 2009
3:30-5:00 p.m. in 1010 Humanities Gateway

Co-sponsored by the Office of the Campus Writing Coordinator, the Teaching, Learning & Technology Center, and DUE Office of Assessment & Research, this colloquy on the upper-division writing requirement presents assessment data about several UDW courses, with an eye toward clarifying what the requirement does--and what it could do. We will also hear from faculty who successfully teach the course in their disciplines. By connecting robust assessment of the requirement with "best practices" from the field, we hope to develop further our vision for this important dimension of students' study at UCI.

Keynote Speakers
Jonathan Alexander, Campus Writing Coordinator and Professor of English
Natalie Schonfeld, Senior Research Analyst, Office of Assessment and
Research (DUE)
Jami Bartlett, School of Humanities
Charles Chubb, School of Social Sciences
